Phnom Penh, Mar 30, 2021 – Visa, the world’s leader in digital payments, has been working with The Pizza Company to deploy contactless payments for customers at its 35 restaurants across the country. Customers can simply tap their cards at checkout counters when picking up their takeway meals rather than having to swipe or dip to settle their bills. They can also make contactless payments for eat-in.
Many consumers worldwide have turned to new technology for payments as a result of COVID-19, and a prime example is in the curbside restaurant pick-up sector, where payments of this kind have climbed 28 percent, according to Visa’s Back to Business report. With the speed and convenience contactless payments offer, they add the advantage of ensuring safety for both staff and customers during the transactions.
“Consumers in Cambodia have a growing demand for contactless payments, evidenced by the fact penetration has grown to 60 percent in January 2021,” said Ms. Monika Chum, Visa Country Manager for Cambodia. “This coincides with increased awareness about the importance of hygienic practices following the way we have had to minimise the need for physical contact during this era of social distancing.”
According to the Visa Consumer Payment Attitudes 2020 report, cash accounts for 90 percent of all payments in Cambodia, but 54% of Cambodian consumers have cut the use of cash or cash on delivery in the food and dining segment. There has also been a 31 percent increase in the use of contactless cards, and interest in adopting this method stands at 45 percent among non-users.
Ms. Ratana Pen, Senior Marketing Manager at The Pizza Company, said: “We have deployed contactless payments acceptance at our outlets to meet the needs of our customers by being empowered to make payments in seconds by simply tapping their Visa contactless card. More and more people are looking for a faster and more effective way to pay, and the added safety contactless will provide a superior customer experience.”
From now on, cardholders that use contactless payments at The Pizza Company will receive a $3 voucher for purchases over $20, providing it is redeemed using a later contactless payment. The promotion is running for a limited time, and terms and conditions apply. See individual outlets for more details.
Tapping to pay, or contactless payment, is growing rapidly in the COVID-19 era. This includes payment at traditional contactless point of sale terminals and Tap to Phone technology, which allows businesses to transform smartphones and tablets into contactless points-of-sale terminals using a simple mobile app. According to the Visa Asia Pacific Tap to Phone Study, over half of consumers (56%) said they would want to be able to pay at a restaurant while seated at the table. High contactless payments adoption could unlock new growth opportunities for Tap to Phone payments that allow employees to checkout customers instantly anywhere around the store.
